Brunei Darussalam National Vision 2035 – Inclusive Real Growth

Brunei Darussalam is a small country in Southeast Asia, located on the coast of Borneo. The country is known as the “Dar of Peace” and is known for its efficient administration. She has launched many policies and laws for the welfare of her people but the biggest vision she launched in 2007 is called “Brunei Vision 2035” which aims for the all-round growth of the nation by focusing on eight major aspects. The eight aspects are areas of development that include, education, economy, institutional development, local business development, national security, social security, infrastructure development, and environmental strategy.

Brunei is very committed to realizing its vision. To achieve this successfully, detailed strategic and communications plans have been put in place. The perception of the public and the countries towards Brunei’s national vision has been supportive and welcoming. It has established bilateral and diplomatic relations with countries all over the world and has relations with nearly 155 countries. Brunei actively participates with international bodies such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the East ASEAN Growth Area, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines (BIMP-EAGA), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Commonwealth of Nations and the United Nations. Brunei is supported by other economies too.

Speaking at the 4th China-ASEAN Media Cooperation Symposium, Ms. Norashidah Aliyomar, Information Officer, Information Department, Prime Minister’s Office, Brunei, stated that the only challenge the country faces is keeping up with emerging and new ways of communication. The way information is disseminated has changed a lot and to effectively achieve the laid out vision, the country has adopted new ways of two-way communication such as Facebook, Twitter, RSS Feeds, YouTube, podcasts and other Web 2.0 tools instead of relying only on traditional and traditional tools such as print newspapers, television and radio, although it is still one of the important means of reaching the masses.

Brunei considers inclusive growth and tends to provide continuous assistance and support to other countries and to promote developments in the economic, environmental and humanitarian fields. Since Brunei adopted this vision, the global world has also started a lot of these kinds of efforts to uplift its people and help other nations. Brunei’s vision is a brand for other nations to think about inclusive growth in terms of all vital areas of development.
